Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the world, people eat together.

Let Me Eat Cake

A Feast for the Eyes

Let me eat cake is an ironic spin on Marie Antoinette's infamous quote, “let them eat cake.” ("Qu'ils mangent de la brioche"). Uttered upon being told that the peasants had no bread. It is interpreted as either showing the princess's indifference towards the peasants or her limited comprehension of their hardships.

Unlike Marie Antoinette, Marie-Aubeline wants you to eat cake. “Let me Eat Cake” reflects upon the distance in the original quote and inverts it by celebrating the joy of sharing and gathering around food. The textured brushstrokes of the culinary creations on display invite the viewer to savour the richness of life through the lens of art.

Indulge your appetite for artistry and join us at "Let Me Eat Cake" – where art rhymes with flavour, generosity, and gathering.

We come together and share food for many occasions. It is a crucial part of who we are, our culture and our identities. Social activities evolve around food. While these moments are effervescent, like a bubble in a glass of champagne, their richness stays with us. This scene evokes the joy of sharing moments, combining the peaceful baby blue background with tempting treats inviting you to savour the moment and indulge in the simple joys of life.

Cherry on the Top

Oil On Canvas,

76x61cm

When I first came to Australia,
I started working as a pastry chef.
This made me realise the importance of food and how it brings people together.
This is still engrained in me, even more as a painter.

I like to play with the texture of paint, as if it was to make the paint almost edible.

I realised how much food was important when I was away from home. I suddenly realise how rich my culture was by being far from it. We often take things for granted in life. Being away makes me value my culture much more than I used to.
